I had half a summer flex day to use at work today before losing it, so I packed up my paddleboard with the intention of going after my morning run. I left the gym and turned toward the creek to find THIS in front of me. Looking the other way was sunshine. I decided not to chance it, unsure whether I was wimping out or if it was a legitimate pass. Five minutes after I got home, it started raining. Glad I trusted my gut, but super annoyed I ended up wasting my day off from work to sit at home in the rain. I’ll keep trying.

I made the most amazing alfredo sauce tonight. It is like 496 points on Weight Watchers and worth every ounce I gain as a result. I am sitting in the parking lot at dance and all I can think about is going home and having more of it. Sometimes I amaze even myself.

Christina officially started her new dance season today. She’s already talking about next year and not doing team so she can do other things too. I don’t blame her. She’ll literally be dancing six days a week. But she loves her pre-pointe class, so that’s good.

Christina had dance pictures at Jax Beach today, so I woke up early to get her there. There was a surf competition going on at the same time, which was kind of cool. By the time we got home, the skies were black and rain was pouring down. It was otherwise a pretty dull day, with the clear exception of dinner with Lauren and Monica, which involved a LOT of laughing and a very heavy dose of sarcasm, which just fills my heart with happiness. There was also beer, and I like that too. I still feel like I could sleep for a month.

I was so disappointed when we got to the beach and it was sunny and thundering and looked like this a few miles down the beach. We stayed long enough to see a crab, take a couple pictures, and come back home. I spent the rest of the day finishing the earrings I made for Robin and FINALLY finished the advent calendar! Ok, ok, ALMOST finished. It still needs hanging wire, but that’s it. What a long process, but I’m so happy with it. Pics will come. Eventually.

My days seem to separate into three basic parts: mornings, when I go to the gym (chest workout today), days, when I go to work (still scrambling to get caught up while people pile more work on my plate), and evenings, which is my free time. Tonight I made spaghetti and meatballs, and watched a storm come and go with only a teaspoon of rain, and watched the Yankees game (currently losing, surprise, surprise). I am in need of a new low-key project. So far I haven’t been able to come up with anything. I guess it’ll come to me eventually.

There was a lot of dance today… dance classes and then a dance team orientation meeting. In between all that, I completed the last bit of sewing for the advent calendar. It just needs rods and a hanger and then it will be done! There is one little piece of sewing that I want to redo eventually. I’m too frustrated with it right now to look at it. Other than that one little corner, I’m so happy with it. I can’t believe it came together the way I’d imagined it, especially since I’ve never really sewn anything before, AND I had no pattern to work from. I can’t wait to use it this Christmas. Photo to come when it is 100% completed.

It thundered and the sky turned black and green and all the stormy colors the sky can turn, but it never rained a drop and the sun stayed out the whole time. This is summer in Florida, and I love it.

My legs have been killing me since Tuesday’s leg workout, so I skipped this morning’s planned run and instead went for a three-mile walk around the neighborhood. Too many people walk around here. I kept having to say hi and good morning to everyone. Sheesh.

I was furious tonight when I came home from cheer and saw that no one had left any dinner for me or Robin. Billy and Christina ate last night’s leftovers and left us two halves of a chicken breast with no sides. So I used our nacho meat to make spaghetti and meat sauce… which we didn’t get to eat until 9:45pm. He said he was going to make mussels… no idea what happened to that plan. He was already in bed when we got home, so I couldn’t kill him. Tomorrow.

The weather was beautiful when I brought Robin to cheer practice. By the time we left, it was like something out of a Stephen King novel. It’s actually cleared up a bit since then. I am so ready for bed.

Just an average day today. Did not have a great run this morning… gave up after ten minutes. I have decided that I’d rather enjoy running than hate it, so I’m not pushing myself too much. Some days are definitely easier than others. I did do a total of 20 minutes in splits, so it wasn’t a total loss. The rest of the day was fine. Billy made awesome cheeseburgers for dinner. I took a shower, which is always life altering. Did some crossword puzzles. Nothing special, really, but not a bad day.

Time for another cheer competition! This weekend we’re in Orlando. I spent the extra $30 to stay at a hotel with a “balcony” overlooking the pool. The balcony fits the three of us standing up side by side. I’m thrilled we don’t have to wake up at 4:45am. Others are not so lucky.

We are having our first winter storm since we moved to Jacksonville 14 years ago. They are predicting sleet and ice overnight. It’s kind of exciting. It’s not so bad when it only happens once every 15 years.

Robin had her last cheer practice before this weekend’s competition in New Orleans and they hit it in one shot. We cheered on Cobalt, the level 3 team, who was struggling a bit more. Even though they struggled, the support and cheering on in that room was tangible. I’m excited to see what happens this weekend, even if it’s not totally the outcome we want. So proud of these kids, all of them. Especially mine.
