It was not my favorite Easter. Shawn has been hurt and they weren’t up for a family gathering, so it was just the four of us. I tried to keep it special, but Billy seemed to be in another kind of mood. The kids and I did some nearby geocaching, though, the food was good, and the Easter Bunny brought just the right things and did a good job hiding eggs. So, not the best, but certainly not the worst.

The kids and I cleaned the gutters for the first time since we moved in eleven years ago. There were trees growing in them. It was hard work, but feels so good to accomplish something like this. And the weather was amazing. Hooray for spring!

It was a light day at work and a gorgeous day outside, so we took the dogs for a walk. It was probably the highlight of my day.

Back to baseball! Also, after surviving to the Sweet Sixteen, my bracket finally started breaking. It’s the best I’ve ever done in a bracket, so it was only a matter of time.

It was an average day, nothing special. Work, early release, dance, pizza, cheer. I did take a shower. That’s always special.

Sometimes I do everything right and still everything feels wrong. It’s times like these that I wish I could tear my head out of my heart and just be happy being happy. It is the ebb of life. Eventually the tide will turn again.

The finished products. Not too bad. The kids seem happy and I’m proud of the work we did and how it turned out.

I delivered my sermon this morning and got a LOT of very positive feedback from a lot of people I highly respect. It was a really nice way to start my day. I’m learning that creative expression is critical to my well-being. Decorating the kids’ rooms, writing this sermon, taking these photos every day… makes me feel good. If I can make it to May, I’ll get to reset the schedule and make sure to put myself in it.

I almost forgot to take a photo for the first time in almost 15 months. Remembered at the last minute. All the decorating is done and now I’m ready for basketball. It’s been a pretty good spring break, the kind where going back to real life absolutely sucks. Got to milk what’s left for all it’s worth.

I finally finished painting today. Christina still has to paint her dresser, but I pawned that job off on Billy. I have had it with painting. Other than that, we just have to hang curtains and then we are done! The rooms really came together so well. I can’t wait to take after shots to go with the before shots. And just for a little extra spice, I am performing with the Symphony tonight. Why do one thing when you can do two? They will put that on my grave.

Not gonna lie, I am tired. Painting is taking FOREVER. I thought I’d be done on Tuesday. Tomorrow is Friday and I still have another coat to do. I don’t think my room is getting painted this week. But Robin’s room is 90% done and it looks AWESOME. We just need to hang her curtains and some art on the walls and then it’s done. Christina’s room will be at about the same point tomorrow too. We MIGHT finish by Saturday, which leaves me Sunday to watch some college basketball. If we get these rooms done this week, I will say we won spring break this year. Can’t wait to post some pics.

I drove a U-Haul today and I felt a little bad-ass doing it, too. Picked up Robin’s new furniture and assembled it. Her room is halfway there. Need to paint the baseboards and closet door, hang some wall art, and put up curtains, but that will do it. Christina’s room is 90% prepped for painting tomorrow – just need to tape off the molding and baseboards because the kids still do not know how to color in the lines. I’m hoping it gets easier after the painting is done. In the meantime, Robin and I found a quick geocache across the street from Christina’s dance studio. Robin found it almost immediately. I’d probably still be there looking if not for her. All in all, a pretty good day.

I forgot what hard work it is to paint a room. It’s not just the physical act of painting that’s hard, but also the challenge of teamwork. While home improvement was part of my motivation this week, what I wanted more than that was time with my children, doing something together that we could all be proud of and enjoy. I hope my children appreciate it. Not me – but the hard work. It belongs to all of us, and we’ll all enjoy the reward too. Eventually. I’m going to have to step up my game if we’re going to get this done in a week. It’s on.

I think we got a lot done today. Bought all the painting supplies and prepped both rooms for painting. Man, their walls are a nightmare. Robin’s walls are filthy and Christina’s walls are riddled with holes, one of which was almost large enough for me to fit my hand into. Also, Robin had a private tumbling lesson today and started working on back handsprings. I am so proud of her. I admire her effort, and I know it’s only a matter of time until she’s handspringing all over the city. And also I finished the last of the 3 in 1 Lego set I bought last year. I seem to have lost several pieces since last year, but I managed to find what I needed in Christina’s mammoth Lego stash. A couple things were the right shape but the wrong color, but you really can’t tell. All in all, a good start to spring break. Tomorrow we paint, Wednesday we pick up furniture, Thursday the decor arrives, and Friday we finish the little projects to make it special. I can’t wait to see what it all looks like finished. I’m excited.

We didn’t do what we’d planned today, but I did spend a lot of time with Legos and Billy made an awesome corned beef dinner. I don’t even like corned beef, but I liked this.
