    January 13

Two things: I ran my first 30-minute interval in years this morning and actually felt energized afterwards. And two, I was so cold watching Robin’s cheer practice that it took over an hour once I got home to get the feeling back in my hands and feet, even with socks, slippers, hoodie, fleece jacket, and king sized comforter on me. It was only 48 degrees outside, but for some reason it was unbearable. That is all.

We played Trivial Pursuit tonight. Billy won, but Christina finished the game in a foul mood, promising never to play with me ever again. She got a lot of hard questions and I got a lot of easy ones, and I guess she didn’t see the difference. But then we played That Escalated Quickly, and we’re getting better at that game too. Some of the things we come up with – no, some of the things CHRISTINA comes up with – are incredibly entertaining. I’m glad we got so many games for Christmas. This kind of family time makes me so happy.

We’ve been enjoying all the games we got for Christmas this year. A particular favorite has been Uno No Mercy, which really is brutal, but enormously fun in its extremism. We have a bunch more games to try out, and luckily no classes or practices to get in the way for at least a week.

We did a lot to celebrate Christmas Eve, but we forgot to read T’was the Night Before Christmas! Seems like everything worked out just fine all the same.

We put up Christmas lights today and I almost died. Apparently I stepped on the home of some very angry ants. I have approximately 35 bites that occurred in a matter of seconds. I had such a violent reaction that I almost passed out right there on the front lawn. I am in so much pain, far worse than when I broke my ankle and needed nine pins and a plate to repair it. But… the house is beautiful. Also the moon got in on the action. Thank you, moon.

Today was so exhausting. Back to back meetings all day with all kinds of nonsense, and then all the endless driving that comes on Wednesdays. Bedtime can’t come fast enough.

The sky was so much prettier about five minutes before I took this photo, but I was stuck driving and couldn’t get a shot of it. Seems to be the way it goes in the life of a taxi driver.

Two of my favorite things: Outside by the fire and the Yankees are winning (even though it feels like they’re losing). The fire pit was a good buy.

Coming home from dance class, I pumped the Debbie Gibson from my open windows and completely and unabashedly owned it. Christina is a good sport.

Something about hurricane preparations really bugs me when we’re not even in the path of the storm and everyone hunkers down as though we are. Hoping people who ARE in the path of the storm are doing ok tonight.

    September 26

This is one of those rare times that someone said a storm is coming and it actually came. It’s very windy right now. And if it’s like this here, I can only imagine what it’s like in Tallahassee. I’m very glad we had our tree work done yesterday.

The clouds have finally passed on and we are treated to a(n almost) full moon. First time in two weeks that we’ve seen sun.

The rain and change in school policy around picking kids up from the walker line ruined my afternoon. I ended up in car line, the kids ended up walking. We got home at the same time, minutes before it started pouring. I am not doing this ever again.

My mind is fighting with itself over unanswerable questions. I am at odds between what is in my heart and what is right. Who knew that one day at Fort Sumter would lead to this kind of inner conflict? I’ve gone from Ken Burns to Martin Luther King to Abraham Lincoln to Frederick Douglass. Soon I will go straight to God and see what He (or She) has to say. If I am not finding answers, I can absolutely say I am learning. And there’s nothing wrong with that.
