I’m starting to get some footing back at work, which is just to say I wrap the day up with a headache, but not nausea too. Billy’s work schedule is bananas right now and he had no choice but to sleep through dinner, so it was just the girls and me tonight for beef burritos, even though what I really wanted was pizza. I also wanted pizza for lunch, but had to settle for tuna because I only had 40 minutes to order it, pick it up, and eat it before my 3pm meeting, and what is the point if I eat it so fast that I can’t taste it? So pizza stays on the menu for Eventually. I’m sure it’ll be worth the wait.

Robin made thirteen pillows today. While Robin was sewing, Christina and I went through the girls’ baby boxes. I unexpectedly found a note that Barbara wrote to Robin before she was born and I couldn’t keep back the tears. I’m so grateful to have had that memory with her tonight. I so wish I could see her again, and thank her. I so wish that Christina had any idea who Barbara actually is. I’ve tried to keep these memories alive for the girls, but they’ll never really know the beauty of these very real relationships. That is a whole loss in itself. I’m glad that at least I have those memories. It will have to be enough.

I set up three Apple Watches today. One for myself (my new one), one for Christina (my old one), and one for Robin, who had to unpair and reset hers since it wasn’t working right. There is something delicious about opening an Apple box. Even their packaging is well designed. Looking forward to tomorrow’s run.

I took the girls to the mall today, and we spent WAY too much money, but had a ball doing it. It was a great day all around because after we got back, we met up with Rosina and Dion for dinner at European Street. It was nice catching up with them. The weekends never feel long enough, but the weeks are getting shorter now that we’re done with cheer and down to our last week of dance. I’m trying my best to keep the load as light as possible this summer. We need to catch our breath after the last ten months.

Finally got my car fixed today after smacking my side mirror into a mailbox a couple months ago (of course the mailbox was fine). Enjoyed another quiet night where I got to cook dinner (grilled curried shrimp and rice) and spent some time helping Robin study for her Civics final tomorrow. I also finished the last crossword puzzle in my book, which is so utterly sad. Added some new books to my Amazon wishlist that I’m confident no one looks at besides me. Someday I’ll treat myself.

Thursdays are the new bane of my existence. 4:45 – drop Christina off at dance. 6:00 – drop Robin off at cheer. 6:15 – pick up Christina from dance. 7:00 – pick up Robin from cheer. Cheer and dance are 20-25 minutes away from each other, depending on traffic, especially at that time of day. I’m pretty sure most people would not agree to this, but until now it hasn’t been a problem because Billy has been able to help out. But now he has clients from 5:30-6:30 on Thursdays and we’re on our own. I got home from cheer at 7:20 and then at 8:00, after a quick dinner, I had a Zoom meeting with my co-facilitator for the NAMI class I’m teaching. When all was said and done, it was 8:30pm. By the time I was done with my shower, it was 9:00. I keep telling myself that the schedule will ease when Christina’s dance season ends at the end of May. I don’t know how this keeps happening. Eventually I will simply be too old. I think 45 is already too old. I’d like to hope the kids will appreciate it someday, but probably not for a long, long time, if ever. Despite it all, it feels worth it to me. I like watching them grow. It’ll even out eventually.

Got a lot done today. Like, a lot. Did dishes, did laundry, went food shopping, baked cookies, spent three hours cleaning Christina’s room, watched basketball, and spent 45 minutes with Robin by the fire pit until the propane ran out. Weekends are not long enough.

I was furious tonight when I came home from cheer and saw that no one had left any dinner for me or Robin. Billy and Christina ate last night’s leftovers and left us two halves of a chicken breast with no sides. So I used our nacho meat to make spaghetti and meat sauce… which we didn’t get to eat until 9:45pm. He said he was going to make mussels… no idea what happened to that plan. He was already in bed when we got home, so I couldn’t kill him. Tomorrow.

The weather was beautiful when I brought Robin to cheer practice. By the time we left, it was like something out of a Stephen King novel. It’s actually cleared up a bit since then. I am so ready for bed.

Just an average day today. Did not have a great run this morning… gave up after ten minutes. I have decided that I’d rather enjoy running than hate it, so I’m not pushing myself too much. Some days are definitely easier than others. I did do a total of 20 minutes in splits, so it wasn’t a total loss. The rest of the day was fine. Billy made awesome cheeseburgers for dinner. I took a shower, which is always life altering. Did some crossword puzzles. Nothing special, really, but not a bad day.

Robin is dealing with the heart-wrenching reality of low self esteem paired with other insecure teenagers pressing on it. I wish I could insert some self confidence in her, but it has to come from her. One thing I have had to learn over and over as a mom is that I can’t fix everything. Sometimes the most helpful thing I can do is sit with her in silence while she works things out for herself. The good news is that it does seem to help in its own slow but meaningful way. If nothing else, she should always know that I am in her corner no matter what. No one could love her more.

Time for another cheer competition! This weekend we’re in Orlando. I spent the extra $30 to stay at a hotel with a “balcony” overlooking the pool. The balcony fits the three of us standing up side by side. I’m thrilled we don’t have to wake up at 4:45am. Others are not so lucky.

We are having our first winter storm since we moved to Jacksonville 14 years ago. They are predicting sleet and ice overnight. It’s kind of exciting. It’s not so bad when it only happens once every 15 years.

Robin and I had a great day. We had trouble locating Cafe Du Monde. After a bunch of wrong turns, we found ourselves in the middle of a cruise ship terminal and at a loss. A nice security guy pointed us toward the outlet mall and we walked around there for what felt like forever. We had given up and decided to go to a second rate beignet place when we walked right into it. Robin’s beignet cherry is officially popped. I think we are going to have to go every day of our trip now. Robin and her team killed it at her competition today. So proud of them. And we finished the night at House of Blues. It was so fun! And delicious!

Long drive to New Orleans today. We ate at Waffle House! Robin was blown away by the fact that we crossed into another time zone. I was blown away by the fact that Robin knew New Orleans is in Louisiana. And now we’re here and I am going to sleep!
