On my last day of fall vacation, I hiked Little Talbot Island. I thought I had bug spray in my trunk, but discovered when I got there that I didn’t. It was unfortunate, because there were approximately two billion mosquitos on the trail. I swatted them away for about two thirds of a mile and almost turned back, but then thought about the beach blanket in my backpack. I draped it over my shoulders and arms and it worked perfectly! Then I only had to swat around my face. Luckily, they mostly stayed away from my face as long as I kept moving. When I took out my lunch once I got to the beach, lo and behold, I found two cans of bug spray at the bottom of my backpack. It’s good to be prepared.

October 23
Finally managed some outdoor time during my week off from work. I found a nice secluded spot near the river (that was still somehow invaded by someone collecting rocks with her dog) and sat in the shade with a nice cool breeze and the water lapping against the shore. It was so peaceful and so needed.

October 20
It was a pretty quiet day today. I had hoped to go for a hike, but couldn’t string together enough consecutive time to make it happen, and then it started drizzling. We did make it around the block after dinner with the dogs. I need to start taking more walks with Pinot on my own to try to teach him to be cool around other people on the street. His barking and lunging is really becoming embarrassing.

September 18
My brain is mush. My job is literally to find mistakes, which sounds fine until you realize you also have to fix the mistakes and make people accountable for them. Oh, and fix the underlying root issue that caused the mistake. Which becomes demoralizing when you fix the root cause only for someone to come along and break it (or something else) again behind you.
Just as I do for dear Pinot, I spend my days at work cleaning up turds. I appreciate the importance of it, but I’m exhausted. I need another day at the beach.

September 14
If you look carefully, you’ll see some blue sky. It didn’t last long, but I did enjoy the use of my sunglasses a few times today. Christina and I went to the pool, but I guess the hours changed in September and we missed it. But I made two more ornaments for the advent calendar, and I picked up and hung the paintings from last weekend. I need to get out of the house tomorrow. To do what? I don’t know. But I need to leave this house.

September 5
The rain has been endless! I think I read that we’ve had something like more than 5.5 inches of rain in two days. Roads are flooded… poor Billy has had to hold practices in the rain. Meanwhile, the search is on for a tree guy.

July 18
It was stormy today, which is just my kind of day. Lots of thunder, which excited me, but deeply agitated Jackson. Poor boy.

May 24
I laid in the grass listening to the latest Hozier album after work. There was a breeze and sun and shadows and it was kind of perfect.

April 24
Best part of my day was having all four of us eating together at the pizza place between Christina’s two dance classes. Good conversation and good food, good combination.

April 4
I got some things off my chest today. Now it is kind of hovering in the air and I’m not really sure where it’ll land. To be honest, I’m not entirely sure it even matters, but we’ll see. I’m getting tired of second chances, even if I stand to gain from them. Second chances just seem to lead to more second chances. But still… soccer in the shadows. Robin kicked ass, even though they got their asses kicked. A sign of a champion.

March 29
It was a light day at work and a gorgeous day outside, so we took the dogs for a walk. It was probably the highlight of my day.

December 4
Sometimes things hit me suddenly without warning or explanation. But I kept on knitting hats for Kindermarket.

December 3
Bought and put up our Christmas tree. The girls participated in the beginning but then lost interest, which kind of ruined it for me. Decorating the tree was always one of my favorite parts of Christmas, and it was always a thing we did together as a family. It makes me so sad that it doesn’t have the same meaning for our kids. I’m trying to make the most of it anyway.

November 19
Christina and I retraced my route to Saturday’s chorus concert trying to find the music folder that I had set on top of my car before driving downtown to sing. Alas, it has gone wherever music folders go when people do such things, because we couldn’t find it. The day was not all lost, though, because Robin had another cheerleading showcase and it went well! Colleen and her crew came to watch and it was nice getting together. I love how happy Robin is when she’s cheering.
