Had a tough day. Have not been feeling my best to begin with, but I had a lousy meeting that put me over the edge. Like, way over. To feel better, I decided to have some plantain chips that Billy bought for me, but he took them with him to his wrestling practice. So then I thought I’d have some of the Almond Joys he bought me, but Christina told me she ate all of them. I had to officially back out of the holiday pops and Messiah concerts this year, which hurts so much to do. Robin didn’t want me to sing to her at bedtime. I have not felt this low in a very long time.

I spent some time shopping online using the massive store credit I have from earlier this year when my account was hacked and some jerk bought some expensive appliance on my card but the store wouldn’t give me a refund. I guess this is the best possible outcome of that.

Robin is showing interest in drawing, and I’m trying to inspire her without discouraging her. She tried to copy a photo of Albert Einstein, which actually came out pretty well, given how much actual drawing she’s done. My genuine favorite, though, is the hand she drew, which is in the lower center of the photo. It looks nothing like a hand, but I can see that she drew it as she saw it, not as she thought it should be. And that is one of the key fundamentals of good drawing. I hope she sticks with it. It’s a good outlet.

Taking pictures is just not top of mind for me lately. There are too many other things taking up space. I need to start making more time for it, though, and more time for myself.

Here’s the end result of the bedroom door painting exercise. I didn’t love the idea of doing it in the first place, but the joy they got out of it made it worth it, and I love the creativity they put into it.

Billy had the idea to let the girls paint their bedroom doors however they wanted, so I bought them some paint, laid down some tarp over the floor, and let them at it. I went out for lunch with Myrna while they were still working and they were done by the time I got home. I love the creativity.

Chucky and my two little sea birds are getting along just fine, thanks. Also today was insane at work.

Today at Panera, the girls and I played Five Crowns. Christina had a bad hand and got angry, pouting and tearing up paper. That annoyed Robin, so she tried to grab the paper shreds out of Christina’s hand, which resulted in a fight and me deciding to leave, even though we were one hand away from completing the game. Which put everyone in a bad mood. And then at the entrance to the parking lot we encountered a man who was holding up a sign saying something like, would it kill you to smile, and he started giving me a hard time because I wouldn’t force Robin, who was really upset, to smile. He was literally harassing me, and I really didn’t want to get into it with him WHILE I WAS DRIVING, which then put ME in a bad mood because I had treated this person disrespectfully for no good reason. But then I dropped the kids off at cheer and came home and painted flowers on 122 little rocks for church. Even if people don’t appreciate them, it does me good to paint them. Who knows – maybe there’s a smile in us yet.

The girls did not finish in the top three this weekend, but they were closer than they’ve ever been. It was the first time I thought they might have had a chance. The judges gave some really constructive feedback with their scores, which is awesome because now the team has some really solid things to work on before their next competition in six weeks. I’m so relieved this one is over, though. These things are so stressful.
