Somehow even though I planned ahead, I am up past midnight finishing crafts for Friendship Day at school tomorrow. They came out pretty nice, I think. I hope people like them.

I made eight bookmark tassels tonight. 28 to go by tomorrow night. I might need to take the day off from work.

So proud of my girl. For so many reasons.

Had lunch with Myrna today, and then we made pins for tomorrow’s cheer competition. Can I just say it is harder to decorate clothespins than you might think! Also, we will be finding glitter in our earwax for the next ten months.

I’ve been worrying about our money situation for a few weeks now – everything is becoming astronomically more expensive by the minute. I had written off vacation plans and redecorating the kids’ rooms as impossible this year. But it turns out people at work are listening after all. Maybe we’ll make it yet.

Robin was tapped to help out another cheer team at an upcoming competition, so today she started learning the new routine. She was called in as a spotter, but also ended up getting to do a couple stunts, including one she’d never done before. I’m so proud of my girl. Much to her embarrassment, I’m sure.

For what I spent on two new tires today, I could spend three nights at a nice hotel in Savannah, including meals. Also today: After four glorious weeks of being fully staffed for the first time in over two years, one of my team members quit. It was nice while it lasted.

I taught Christina how to moon someone today. She thought it was absolutely HILARIOUS. What have I done?

February 5
Today was: A doctor’s appointment for the girls, a work presentation featuring a zombie, a panic attack right before cheer, and 32 years since Dad died. Pinot is peeing and pooping wherever he feels like it and I finished my jigsaw puzzle. An eventful Monday.

Christina’s first dance competition was a success! Her production dance got first place in their division, and her other two dances got third and fourth. Two of her pieces also scored platinum, which is the highest score you can get. I don’t actually know what her dances looked like because I was so focused on her, but I was impressed with how far she’s come since last year. I could tell she had a ton of fun, and that’s what it’s all about.

Days like today are why I live in Florida. Sitting by the pool on February 3 is just what this girl needs. We sat by the pool and Christina swam for almost five hours. It was kind of perfect.

In trying to stay on top of things, I booked our hotel for this weekend’s dance competition back in October. Turns out being on top of things is a myth because I booked the wrong nights and ended up losing the reservation, which I didn’t find out until six hours before we were to check in. We got very lucky that they had a room available after I realized my mistake. And we even have a balcony overlooking the Wawa parking lot! Upgrades all around.

Today we had birthday cake in honor of Mom’s 77th birthday. I tried to come up with a story or memory to share with the girls but I couldn’t think of anything. That makes me sad. I don’t know if memories fade or if I actively forget, but sometimes I’m ashamed of how small she has become in my life. I miss her. I wish things had turned out differently. I wish I could have saved her. I hope she is at peace. And I wish I could think of just one good story about her to share with her grandchildren.

Billy and I had a long, complicated conversation the other day about who was going to take Christina to dance on Wednesdays now that he’s not coaching in the afternoons. In the end everything stayed the same. Turns out that even though it’s inconvenient, I really like the 45 minutes I get to spend with Christina eating pizza in between classes. We don’t always talk about much, and sometimes we end up on devices, but it’s special time just for us and I didn’t want to give it up. And then after dinner, I get one on one time with Billy at home before he has to go pick her up. So it’s kind of a win-win.

I dragged Christina to pick up my new sunglasses after school. Billy texted me along the way asking if I was out getting my new sunglasses and Christina was mystified as to how he knew where I was going. So I asked him and he said it’s because he has a pencil and takes notes. Made her laugh. I realized yesterday that I love when people laugh. It fills me up a little. So thanks for that, Billy.
