I am teaching another NAMI course starting next week. It’s been a while since I did one; I’m a little rusty. I remember many years ago when I took my class, they were still doing the videos on DVD, and the technology at the time was a total hassle. You’d think we would have come a long way from there, but it turns out the technology issues don’t improve, they just change. I’m just hoping our venue has WiFi.

February 3
Robin is dealing with the heart-wrenching reality of low self esteem paired with other insecure teenagers pressing on it. I wish I could insert some self confidence in her, but it has to come from her. One thing I have had to learn over and over as a mom is that I can’t fix everything. Sometimes the most helpful thing I can do is sit with her in silence while she works things out for herself. The good news is that it does seem to help in its own slow but meaningful way. If nothing else, she should always know that I am in her corner no matter what. No one could love her more.

January 10
Robin made dinner for me tonight while I was at dance with Christina. She did a good job, too! Beef burritos with rice.

November 13
Today was so exhausting. Back to back meetings all day with all kinds of nonsense, and then all the endless driving that comes on Wednesdays. Bedtime can’t come fast enough.

October 21
Had lunch with Myrna today, which is always a good time. I wish I’d had a little more time for myself today, but even on a day off, I can’t seem to make it happen. It is really starting to frustrate me.

October 4
Had a nice team event at work and got to see Christina’s play in the Festival of Courage. This will be our last one! The check-out procedure afterwards was a disaster and I felt so horrible for Ms. LaTanya, who was getting reamed out by multiple parents, as though she wasn’t sitting up front all by herself, surrounded by a mob or parents trying to pick up their children. She was literally in tears and parents were still yelling at her. How rude and inconsiderate do you have to be? I was angry and wanted so much to give her a hug. I hope that guy is happy with himself.

September 25
My windows are filthy, but our trees are no longer hanging on top of the roof! These guys showed up one minute after my alarm went off at 7:15 and were gone by 9:30. They trimmed three trees and removed one. Our yard is a mess, but I’m relieved to have it done. It feels like there is so much still to do, like I dunno, wash the windows? And of course now we need to clean the gutters. Twice in one year? I can’t remember ever cleaning the gutters twice in the same year. Honestly I’m not even sure we ever cleaned the gutters twice ever. Not bad, Caitlin. Not bad.

September 10
The rain and change in school policy around picking kids up from the walker line ruined my afternoon. I ended up in car line, the kids ended up walking. We got home at the same time, minutes before it started pouring. I am not doing this ever again.

August 12
Back to school today. Christina came home as bubbly as ever. Robin came home with a 103-degree fever. And so we begin.

August 11
It was a long day of traveling. We got up at 2am for our 6am flight, which was subsequently delayed four hours, causing us to miss our connection. We had 19 minutes to make the new one, which required going to a separate terminal. Somehow we made it, even though my shoes kept falling off. And then that plane was delayed 20 minutes due to some fuel gauge issue. The people around us on both flights were completely obnoxious. One woman kept poking my seat because her TV screen was broken and she just couldn’t accept it. There was a spider and a woman who refused to sit in her seat near a spider, even if someone did kill it. There was a guy next to me who sang and bounced his leg next to mine for the entire flight while he also sniffled and coughed the whole way. He obviously had a cold. I spent the whole flight trying to avoid his germs. But we finally got to Rosina’s to get the kids, who had a great time, and we made it home by 4:30. The rest of the day was lying on the couch watching the Olympics. I’m so tired.

February 22
Back to work today and back to work indeed. By 8:00 I had both kids not speaking to me. I put Pinot on the market for five cents and got no takers. I think it’s time for another day.

February 18
In two days I walked almost 15 miles, half of it carrying Robin’s cheer bag full of bricks. I didn’t work this hard on my backpacking trip in Virginia with Siggi five years ago. In the midst of everything, poor Robin had a full-out panic attack when she thought her team left to perform without her. It took an hour to get her calm again. In the end, both teams came in ninth place, which wasn’t last, but close to it. The odds were stacked against them because the other teams were double their size and they could do harder stunts. Regardless of where they placed, they looked amazing to me, especially Robin’s core team. I’m so proud of them for coming to such a big event and bringing their all to it. What they did is amazing.

February 16
We are here in Atlanta for Cheersport, which is apparently the biggest cheerleading event on Earth. I’m excited about everything except waking up at 4:45am.
