We went to Carmine’s Pie House to celebrate Robin’s 8th grade graduation. We got off to a little bit of a rocky start, but it ended up being a pretty good night. I had a win (or at least the start of a win) at work today, too. I configured a GPT to help build a searchable database of questions and answers for our training site. This is something the team has been asking for for years and we haven’t been able to figure out a good way to do it. I set up a more or less automated system in a couple of hours. I feel like a million dollars. It needs some refinement, but I’m proud of it. I can’t wait to share it with the team. Not a bad day.

We had another nice day today. We spent almost the entire day shopping. We did have ice cream for lunch, which I do recommend. My ice cream cone, which was technically only two scoops, weighed approximately four pounds. So much delicious ice cream! We went to a very fancy restaurant for dinner, which was as fabulous as we expected – probably more, even. It was a great finish to a great weekend. And now it is 10:20pm and I have to get up at 6:30am and I have just accidentally taken my morning medication instead of my evening medication, which royally sucks because my morning medication includes a strong stimulant and now I’ll be lucky to sleep at all tonight. At least I’ll be home early and I can sleep all afternoon. What a great trip with great company. We need more times like these.

Christina is sleeping over at her friend’s house tonight and they live right down the street from Carmine’s Pie House, so we stopped on by. It was a fun night. We talked about Robin and high school and other hijinx. Nice to go out and do something a little different.

Got a lot done today. Cleaned the kitchen, went food shopping, did laundry. Robin asked to go to Michael’s to buy supplies to make phone charms and I spent way too much money on it. I’ll do almost anything to see her smile. I met Lauren and Monica for an early dinner at Pecan Craft Kitchen, which is a new farm to table restaurant that was pretty good. We complained about our kids and husbands (and ex-husbands) and ate dessert out of tiny mason jars. And then I came home and knitted obsessively for hours. The blanket is coming along – about five more feet to go! At this rate it will be done by the summer solstice. Maybe. Also it’s cold. It barely rose above 50 today and rained most of the day. I am not complaining – it’s just so rare that it gets this cold here. Having the heat kick on before we go to bed is weird. I kinda like it, honestly.

I ended up taking a sick day from work today because I couldn’t keep my eyes open or my brain focused enough to do anything this morning. I went to the couch to lie down and woke up at 12:30, ate lunch, and went back to sleep until 2:45. It’s unfair that I go through this almost every month. The pharmacy is always out of the medication I need, and it takes days to come in. And since it’s a controlled substance, I can only order it one day before I run out, and I can’t transfer it to another location. Every fucking month. Some months are worse than others… this was one of the worst. I finally woke up enough to go out for hibachi with Billy and Robin (Christina was at dance). And now it’s 9:30 and I am so ready for bed. Thank god the medication finally came in tonight, so I’ll have it tomorrow. This is miserable!

I willingly got up at 6:15am ON A SATURDAY to go for a group run at Ed Austin Park. There is a free timed 5k there every week and a couple friends of mine go regularly. I’m proud of myself for many reasons: Getting out of bed before daylight, and going to a place I was unfamiliar with to meet people I didn’t know to run a distance I didn’t think I could do IN THE RAIN. Ok, it wasn’t really raining, but it WAS misting, which is close enough to raining as far as I’m concerned. But I did it! I was aiming for a 25-minute run and walking the rest, but I only made it 22 minutes. I did not anticipate hills. And people who actually live near hills would sniff their noses at me because the things I am referring to as hills are hardly noticeable unless you’re running on them and you never run on hills. I think I could have done the full 25 minutes, but I was mad that it was harder than I anticipated, and I blame the DAMN HILLS. That are not really hills, but they’re as much hills as mist is rain. I planned on walking the rest, but I did run a bunch of it anyway, and finished the 5k in just over 42 minutes, which is actually right on track with my usual 5k finishing time. So yeah. Bottom line is I rule.

Repairs on my car are $3,500. Also I have a road trip planned in a week. For some reason, my brain is not processing this, and I don’t know what to do next. So we went to Chili’s.

Today was better than the last couple of days, thank goodness. I actually managed to get some work done. Not nearly close to all of it, but at this point I’ll settle for getting ANYTHING done that doesn’t result in more work to do. Was otherwise a typical day. Ran on the treadmill, knitted during dance class, watched the Yankees clobber the Cubs… All good in the hood, as my friend Barry would say.

I dragged everyone back to Cafe Du Monde one last time before heading home. I wanted one last beignet before we left. I thought everyone would be excited to join me, but there were a lot of grumpy people. Billy and Robin didn’t even eat any. Don’t care… I can still taste it and it was worth it. I didn’t want to leave. Such a phenomenal trip. One of the best.

Robin had her first practice with Cobalt tonight and it went pretty well, other than not being able to practice any stunts because the flyer was hurt. They have a competition on Sunday, so we’ll see how that goes with just this one practice under her belt! She said she liked this team better than her team because they were a lot more helpful. It’s nice when kids can be nice.

Billy bought me a box of chocolates for Valentine’s Day, and when I went to have one, I found that Christina had eaten them all. So Billy bought me another box of chocolates, which I kept on my desk in my office so Christina wouldn’t be tempted. Tonight I got home to find that a certain dog who will remain nameless jumped onto my desk, carried the box across the room to my couch, and ate every last one of them. I don’t know how he is still alive. Maybe I’ll have a beer. Pinot hasn’t figured out how to open the refrigerator door – yet.

I had to do a test at the hospital that took up most of my afternoon, so I stopped at Chili’s for a late lunch and watched part of the game that eliminated the Astros from the postseason (oh darn). Nice to have a little time for myself.

It’s another cheer weekend and this weekend we’re in West Palm Beach. Billy stayed home, so it’ll be a girls weekend for us. So far we’re living it up with calzones and Hershey bars. Doesn’t get better than this, folks.

Christina’s first dance competition was a success! Her production dance got first place in their division, and her other two dances got third and fourth. Two of her pieces also scored platinum, which is the highest score you can get. I don’t actually know what her dances looked like because I was so focused on her, but I was impressed with how far she’s come since last year. I could tell she had a ton of fun, and that’s what it’s all about.

Christina and I get 45 minutes between her dance classes to eat dinner together. It’s nice to have this alone time with her, even if we do end up spending some of it glued to our screens.
