We had a nice day living the life at Aunt Cathrine and Uncle Bob’s senior living facility. It’s like living on a giant cruise ship. The place has everything imaginable. Today’s highlights included visiting the facility thrift shop, going to the pool, playing Uno, and having a fancy St. Patrick’s Day dinner in the dining room. They seem so absolutely happy here, and honestly, who could blame them? It has been so good to spend some time with them. I’m glad we made the trip.

February 1
Robin’s team did great at today’s cheer competition! They came a long way, even in the last two weeks. We have to keep that energy going into day two! Also, next time, must remember to take off the mascara before going swimming.

August 24
I slept past 10am for the first time in what feels like at least ten years. I was having dreams that Robin was being lured into making bad choices before a tribunal that was obliterating people for making said bad choices. I tried to step in on her behalf, saying she’s only a child, she doesn’t know better, but they didn’t care. She’d made the choice, she had to deal with the consequences, even if it meant obliteration. My dreams can be very literal sometimes. So I took Christina to the pool. I’m glad we spent some time together. I had a lot of fun with her. We went to the library afterwards and she got some books, one of which she has already finished. Then home, where I made another ornament for the advent calendar that may never be finished. And then Billy got the new fire pit working and we all sat around it roasting s’mores. Even Pinot got a little bite of graham cracker. We had to force him outside because we caught him jumping on all the tables in the living room, eating all our crumbs and napkins. Overall, not a bad day. I have to make the most of these free days because there just aren’t enough of them.

August 17
Days at the pool are running out. I was sad that Robin wouldn’t come with us. Someday maybe we’ll have our own pool.

July 26
I didn’t get to the pool yesterday, thanks to the weather, so I took the day off from work and went this morning. I did not regret it. I always forget how refreshing the water is when it’s 102 degrees outside. Then we watched the Olympics opening ceremony, which was FOUR HOURS LONG OMG, but still pretty cool. Good day.

July 5
I managed to drag myself to work today, and rewarded myself with family night at the pool and a nice dinner out at Olive Garden afterwards. I love family time, especially when no one is fighting, like tonight. I am determined to make the most of this summer.

June 22
It was a pretty good day. I’m definitely digging the pool time. A highlight was homemade meatball heroes in front of the TV and angel food cake with Cool Whip and strawberries for dessert. It’s pretty amazing what good food can do for the soul.

June 19
The pool at the Y finally opened for the season, so I used my day off from work to go with the girls. Life calls for more pool days!

May 25
Today was an emotional day of birthday pool parties. The first one had an abrupt end accompanied by tears – both mine and Robin’s – and the second involved actual swimming, delicious cheeseburgers, and chocolate cake. Happy birthday Sydney and Rosina!

February 3
Days like today are why I live in Florida. Sitting by the pool on February 3 is just what this girl needs. We sat by the pool and Christina swam for almost five hours. It was kind of perfect.

November 11
There was some kind of soccer tournament going on near the hotel. There were at least 75 kids running around the lobby and the pool after dinner while their 125 parents drank beer and wine and largely ignored them. The noise! The chaos! It wasn’t the peaceful escape I imagined, but we did get this moment to ourselves before the soccer exploded.

September 2
Trying to make more of an effort to do fun things. The pool was nearly empty and it was definitely cooler today than it was last week, but we had fun anyway. There was only minimal fighting over goggles.

April 28
We are ready for cheer competition weekend! The girls have lost three team members in the last two weeks, so they’ve had to redo their whole routine at the last minute. We’ll see what this means for them, but there are four teams in their category, so they’ll at least place fourth!
