We went to make a new mug for Billy to replace the one Robin broke yesterday. Christina was NOT interested in helping, but she did finally add a few touches to it. Robin went to her first tumbling class at the new gym, taught by her old coach. He was great with her. I’m glad she has this.

We cracked open the Florida adventures cards I got for Mother’s Day and had our first adventure at a splatter room in Gainesville. I still think we came out looking way too clean, but it is thoroughly satisfying to throw paint around a room for an hour. I will not say we left with works of art, but we did leave in a good mood.

I delivered my sermon this morning and got a LOT of very positive feedback from a lot of people I highly respect. It was a really nice way to start my day. I’m learning that creative expression is critical to my well-being. Decorating the kids’ rooms, writing this sermon, taking these photos every day… makes me feel good. If I can make it to May, I’ll get to reset the schedule and make sure to put myself in it.

I did not do a good job of balancing things today. I ate almost entire box of chocolate chip cookies (I left three), a donut, three helpings of pasta, and a bunch of pizza rolls, all after 3pm. I used all my free time to do crossword puzzles, to the point that there are only three left in my book of 100. (Granted I did not do 97 in one day, but I’ve only been working through the book for three days.) We got a letter from the bank and our mortgage is almost doubling, thanks to our homeowners insurance being blocked out of the state and the new one costing three times more. Taking a picture to remember this day just seems so stupid. But I guess it’s a good enough starting point for something different. Again.

Here’s the end result of the bedroom door painting exercise. I didn’t love the idea of doing it in the first place, but the joy they got out of it made it worth it, and I love the creativity they put into it.

Billy had the idea to let the girls paint their bedroom doors however they wanted, so I bought them some paint, laid down some tarp over the floor, and let them at it. I went out for lunch with Myrna while they were still working and they were done by the time I got home. I love the creativity.

It was a hard day, but not the hardest. I was disproportionately disappointed when an important member of the class I’m teaching on Thursdays backed out of the remaining classes. I’m having a disagreement at work that is stressing me out. Robin took one of my sodas, or at least I thought she did. I ended up taking her word for it when she insisted she hadn’t taken it, but who knows. I didn’t really want to take a photo today, but here we have this. I haven’t given up yet.
