Robin’s team looked great to me, as usual. We’ll see what happens against Top Gun, which accounts for the three other teams in their division. Those people are no joke. We also got to meet up with Q, which was a real treat for me! All in all, not a bad day.

In two days I walked almost 15 miles, half of it carrying Robin’s cheer bag full of bricks. I didn’t work this hard on my backpacking trip in Virginia with Siggi five years ago. In the midst of everything, poor Robin had a full-out panic attack when she thought her team left to perform without her. It took an hour to get her calm again. In the end, both teams came in ninth place, which wasn’t last, but close to it. The odds were stacked against them because the other teams were double their size and they could do harder stunts. Regardless of where they placed, they looked amazing to me, especially Robin’s core team. I’m so proud of them for coming to such a big event and bringing their all to it. What they did is amazing.

We are here in Atlanta for Cheersport, which is apparently the biggest cheerleading event on Earth. I’m excited about everything except waking up at 4:45am.

Days like today are why I live in Florida. Sitting by the pool on February 3 is just what this girl needs. We sat by the pool and Christina swam for almost five hours. It was kind of perfect.

This is the first of a long string of weekends we’ll be traveling for cheer and dance competitions. There was a stretch of about 15 minutes that was very tense on the way to Orlando when my gas gauge turned on just before a 15-mile stretch of highway without a single exit. I made it with about ten miles to spare and Christina was none the wiser. Next time, AAA, next time.

I forgot NYC traffic. I think I got one or two new gray hairs today. The traffic itself doesn’t bother me, but the cutting in and out drives me crazy. People are so disrespectful on the roads, it is unbelievable. And completely draining to deal with. A 7-hour drive took 9+ to complete because of traffic, and we didn’t even go over the George Washington Bridge or through the Bronx as the Yankees game was ending. But here we are, and I had awesome ribs and mashed potatoes and beer for dinner and now the kids are at the pool and honestly, it’s good. A few more little old hours and we’ll be on the beach. Cannot wait!

We are ready for cheer competition weekend! The girls have lost three team members in the last two weeks, so they’ve had to redo their whole routine at the last minute. We’ll see what this means for them, but there are four teams in their category, so they’ll at least place fourth!

Another cheerleading weekend. I introduced the kids to Outback Steakhouse and they both regretted not ordering steak and mashed potatoes after I got my meal. I’m tired of Orlando traffic, by the way.
