Robin wanted to go to the JV football game at school. I have been so frazzled lately that I had a very hard time getting organized enough to make it happen, but we did. The game was ugly. The other team gained more yards through our penalties than they did through plays. We left at halftime and they were only down by a touchdown, but apparently it got uglier after we left. Even though it’s hard making things happen in the middle of a tornado, sometimes it’s fun anyway.

We talked to the kids about Jackson and decided to try the injection. I made an appointment with the vet, but the earliest they had was next Friday. I’ve been paying closer attention to him, but it’s so hard to tell how he’s feeling.

We went to one of Billy’s football games tonight. Luckily the storm of the day was during Robin’s dismissal and not during the game. Poor Robin got drenched getting into the car, but luckily not struck by lightning. The game was good – for our team – but I don’t understand why the home team side of the field is always directly facing the sun. It was so uncomfortable for the first hour we were there. The game itself was a blowout. The other team just started playing 11-man football a week ago. Before now, they were playing 9-man football. And they really only had about 11 players. They tried hard, but we beat them 51-0, and the third and fourth quarters were only one second long each. They had one fantastic pass of about 30 yards, but that came back for a penalty. Even our parents were cheering for them. I give them so much credit for playing, and staying in the game. That’s now two weekends of high school football in a row. And I don’t even have a kid in the game.

August 14
After a week of high school carline drama and what I’m sure was an equally stressful week for Robin, we went to the first home football game of the season tonight. I was surprised Robin wanted to go, but she had a good time and we stayed until the end. Well, almost. There was about a minute left when we left, but they were up by two touchdowns and an extra point, so realistically, the game was over. It was so hot that we broke protocol and sat on the away side for a while because it was in the shade. It was a pretty good game, but the Mandarin fans were a lot more lackluster than the Creekside fans. It was fun, even though I sat alone and Robin pretended I wasn’t there.

I’ve come a long way from the person who held the Lombardi trophy but didn’t even know what a bye week was. First game of the middle school football season and Bolles kicked it off with a win. I didn’t even need the announcer to know what was happening.
