I had such a hard time waking up this morning to go for my run, but I’m glad I did. It is pretty much the only sanity I’ve had this week, and I’m so grateful for it. Today was a little better than the rest of the week, but it ended on a sour note when I got a series of condescending emails that really rubbed me the wrong way. But I have running and grapes and brownies and let’s face it, that person has bigger problems than I do. I’ll sit here being smug instead.

Robin tested positive for flu type A and strep throat today. She got the strep from me and the flu from the friend we went to the arcade with last weekend. Poor kid! She’s holding up pretty well considering. I’m trying my best to believe that I won’t get the flu from her, but I guess it would be fair turnaround.

The weather was beautiful when I brought Robin to cheer practice. By the time we left, it was like something out of a Stephen King novel. It’s actually cleared up a bit since then. I am so ready for bed.

Christina had a dance performance at the Riverside Arts Market on a foggy Saturday morning. I loved getting to watch her. They look so great!

I walked over 16,000 steps around the island, including one jaunt I thought would take me to a nice lookout point. Turns out that lookout point was a lot farther away than I estimated and between Christina’s shoes being completely inappropriate for walking and the fact that I had to be back for dinner, we never made it. But we did find a little private beach at the end of a dirt road and a very well-hidden trail. Christina was tickled.

Made it at last to Maine. Today’s drive was much easier than yesterday’s. The weather leaves a little to be desired; cold and foggy. We had a nice lunch overlooking the water before getting on the ferry. The kids enjoyed biking, although Robin is not used to hills or requiring use of bike brakes and she rode directly into a bush and halfway into the ocean. Now she doesn’t want to bike ride anymore. We’ll break her in. It’s been great spending time with Aunt Cathrine and Uncle Bob. Looking forward to a quiet week ahead.

March 22
I hate waking up early, so I sacrificed my time at the coffee shop today and got up a little later. It’s not quite the same as an hour to myself, but a little misty drama in the morning is a nice tradeoff nonetheless.

January 2
I may have fallen in a hole while taking photos of the beautiful misty morning on the river. A plank in the walkway was missing and I was too busy looking at my shot to notice it. I fell all the way to my waist. But it’s still better than sitting in the coffee shop.
