Since Billy and Colleen both have to work on Easter, we celebrated Easter Saturday this year. There were a few minor glitches, like the time when Robin took an enormous bite out of the bunny cake before we’d even frosted it and I went crazy because omg now the bunny has only half a head! That ruined it for Robin and she halfheartedly threw some frosting on it before going to her room. Christina and I did our best to fix it and it came out pretty good, but I was sad that my initial reaction killed the Easter Bunny for Robin. But the baskets went over well. The wildcard item was these little $6 ear cuffs for Robin that I wasn’t sure she would be into, but they were the biggest hit. She cried when she thought she lost two of them (luckily we found them). She wore them on her ears and septum and honestly, it looked pretty good on her. Christina got a Squishmallow and bunny slime and well, that works for Christina. Dinner was delicious. I had bought a different kind of ham than we usually get because, well, I didn’t know what we usually get, but Billy of course did awesome with it, and I think it even tasted better this way. Christina made the mashed potatoes and did an awesome job on them! There was good conversation, and it was just great to see everyone. Not too shabby.

Since Billy and his sister have to work on Easter Sunday, we are celebrating tomorrow, which means coloring Easter eggs tonight. We tried marbling this year, but it didn’t work very well. It wasn’t for lack of trying. We also finally put our Christmas tree out on the curb for pickup today. Seems kind of poetic, putting up the tree for Christ’s birth, and putting it on the curb for his death. We can almost pass it off as intentional.

I didn’t stick around for cheer tonight and instead came home to cook dinner, even though no one else was home. I got a whole 90 minutes all to myself. It was blissfully quiet. I need to do this more often.

We had such a good Easter this year. So much better than last year, but having wisdom teeth removed would be better than last Easter. We crocheted, we had a water balloon fight, Robin made this bunny cake, we played a new game called Chicken Butt, and we had a delicious ham dinner made by Billy. I have the best family. We missed Colleen and her crew, but hope to see them in a few weeks for Mother’s Day. My heart is full.

It was a busy day. Gym for a run this morning, then food shopping, dyeing eggs (we tried the Cool Whip method this year with marginal success), and then I went out for pizza with Lauren and Monica. While I was out, Robin and Billy baked jelly bean sugar cookies that are actually quite tasty! I’m looking forward to a relaxing evening from here out.

Today was ultra productive. Went to the gym, unpacked and broke down boxes from Aunt Cathrine, washed the sheets and towels and made the bed, washed the car, took down St. Patrick’s Day decorations and put up Easter decorations, booked a hotel for Robin’s end of season cheer competitions, made dinner, made a shopping list, took a shower… Tomorrow is food shopping and laundry and hanging artwork. I’m tired.

It was not my favorite Easter. Shawn has been hurt and they weren’t up for a family gathering, so it was just the four of us. I tried to keep it special, but Billy seemed to be in another kind of mood. The kids and I did some nearby geocaching, though, the food was good, and the Easter Bunny brought just the right things and did a good job hiding eggs. So, not the best, but certainly not the worst.

The last three days have been absolutely exhausting. Fun, but exhausting. I’m really glad it’s over. Back to work tomorrow. I’ll try to enjoy the small amount of downtime I’ve got left.

I feel like I must have met my productivity quota today, but when I look back at my day, I can’t help thinking I should have been able to fold my laundry. Or worked on some sort of crafting project. I’m exhausted, though. And not looking forward to 6:30am when my alarm goes off and I have to go to the gym. The things I do for… me?
