Talk about a lesson in patience. We finished four bracelets, but actually made 11. There were tears. And somehow we keep going back for more.

I co-facilitated another NAMI class tonight. It went pretty well, but I struggle to feel that I am doing good. All I can do is push through. Which is the same message I’m giving myself when it comes to running. I am going backwards in terms of progress, but I will just keep pressing forward. Eventually I have to get un-stuck. For now, though, sleep. I am fucking exhausted.

Considering we started the day on the other side of the state, I did a lot today. Not the least of which was finishing another big piece of the advent calendar. I am finishing the day with overwhelming gratitude. For every time Robin smiled over the weekend, for Christina coming food shopping with me today, for Billy pulling together all our National Parks photos into frames to put on the dining room wall… and so many other things too.

I went out with some friends and we laughed and ate Mexican food and it was so fun. I don’t have many friends here, and those I do have I don’t see very often, so nights like these mean a lot to me. Also today I made the last ornament for the advent calendar. It will surely be done in time for Christmas this year. Next step is to sew on buttons, then add the back and border, and then add dowels and it’s done! Four years of effort. Worth all the time that’s gone into it.

I never bite off more than I can chew. I made 13 of these octopus keychains this weekend for Christina’s class on Valentine’s Day. I still have seven more to make to have enough for everyone in her class. I had the idea to do this months ago. So why did I wait until now to start them? Who doesn’t love a challenge? If there was no last minute, nothing would ever get done.

Finished the first sock in Robin’s pair of socks tonight. She picked out the pattern and yarn and it’s really pretty and super comfortable. I was concerned they’d be too big, but this one fits like a glove. I hope Robin likes it. (She went to bed angry because we told her she couldn’t have veggie straws until she finished her vegetables from dinner. She is 13, but apparently still 3 when it comes to vegetables.)

We removed all traces of Christmas today, except for the outdoor lights. Usually by the time we put away the Christmas stuff I’m ready, but this year we did it later and I wished it could have lasted a little longer. Christmas just seems to have gone by in a flash. So far January just feels like Not Christmas. But I did finish making this pair of socks for Christina. Now Robin wants a pair.

I completed my 28-minute run interval today for the first time since before Christmas, I think. I just haven’t been able to get over the 20-minute hump. I slowed down my pace on the treadmill (barely) and decided to watch something I haven’t already seen. I think it kept me out of my head enough that I wasn’t so focused on the fact that I was running. My heart rate was lower, and honestly, I probably could have gone longer. What was I watching? “Queer Eye.” Love that show.

We went to see Rosina and Dion for some beer and pizza. It’s always nice spending time with friends.

Because no day should be without some kind of project, I bring you: socks.

I finished this sweater today. I was worried it would be too big, but it fits pretty perfectly. I wish you could read it a little clearer, but it’s pretty cool. We had dinner with Rosina and Dion and it was a lot of fun.

I had four straight hours of meetings in which I was an active or leading participant, and by the middle of the last one, I had to pee so bad I really thought I was going to die right there on WebEx. I had also developed a steadily worsening headache. It was so hard to care about what I was teaching to the new hire class I was helping train. I ended the call exactly on time and although I wasn’t capable of running to the bathroom in my condition, I waddled over as best I could. I am still recovering. But I did win Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza twice. I always want to say chicken instead of cheese. I wonder what that means.

I was touched to see this unicorn I made for Rosina years ago sitting on top of a pile of stuffies in her guest room. I had forgotten I ever even made it. It looks a lot healthier than the one I made for Christina. But then again, a lot of things do.

I saw this dog sweater on Amazon a couple months ago that I really liked, but it wasn’t available in Pinot’s size or something, so I didn’t buy it and never saw it again. I decided I’m going to make it. I found a basic dog sweater pattern and am going to attempt to merge it with a Fair Isle pattern I designed separately. I am about 65% sure it will work. So far it still looks decent…

Went with Lauren and Monica to see Wicked on opening night. I was extremely disappointed to find at the end that it is a two-part movie. I don’t appreciate finding that out after I’ve spent the money and time on the film. I thought it was good, though. It’s sticking with me. It was visually beautiful and I enjoyed the music, but I thought it was too long. Still, it was fun!
