I re-watched Apollo 13 after admiring the beautiful crescent moon tonight. Our universe is incredible. From atoms to galaxies and everything in between. And pizza. Do not forget pizza.

February 15
I feel like I’m running a marathon while balancing a watermelon on my head. I’ve already made it 20 miles, but the last six miles feel almost impossible. And people keep tossing tennis balls at me, asking me to juggle them while I run. I am enjoying the view and I always appreciate a challenge, but holy hamsters, I am tired. I hope there’s a pina colada at the finish line.

November 10
Against my better judgment, I solved a longstanding problem at work today. It was so simple and so drastic an improvement, it’s ridiculous that no one had ever thought of it before. Problem solved, I guess.

September 25
Today was a lot of putting one foot in front of the other, trying to get stuff done instead of putting it off, with approximately a 72% success rate.

August 16
I finally got a little bit out of my routine. I walked to school to pick up the kids, and I took Christina to buy sneakers, she having been told that the boots we just bought her wouldn’t cut it for gym. I don’t know if it helped much, but I guess it’s a step.

I didn’t realize how addicted to the iPads the girls have become. They literally don’t know what to do with themselves without it and will do almost anything for a fix. Withdrawal is real – when I cut them off, they immediately started fighting – truly hurtful things were said. I did at least set this boundary today: no one gets any extra iPad time at all while I’m working. All accrued time will be reviewed and adjudicated after I’m done working. And now they need to look up the word adjudicate.

July 28
Today we went for a short hike up Black Balsam Bald. We watched a storm rolling in toward us for the whole hike and ALMOST made it back to the car without getting caught in it. What is a hike up a mountain without getting caught in the rain?

The weather has been wild lately. This morning Billy hydroplaned right off the highway during a rainstorm. Luckily he didn’t hit anything and no one got hurt, but there was enough damage to the car that it had to be towed to a nearby garage. While he was on the phone with AAA for a tow, a woman flipped her car right next to his. Thankfully she wasn’t hurt either, but wow. What a morning.

Drove into this storm to spend over $600 getting the dogs their annual shots and tags. I brought the kids to “help,” which was pretty dumb. The lights went out just as Jackson was getting his second shot, and no one freaked out. Also, this was the first time he did not need to be muzzled for his visit. He must be getting old.

It was a busy day. Robin had her fifth grade graduation in the morning, then had her first cheerleading practice at the new gym, and then I met some chorus friends for wine, cheese, and a river sunset. All very nice. Robin loves her new gym. She said she learned more today than she learned in the entirety of last season. She came home with bruises on her thighs from snapping her arms to her side and she was thoroughly proud of them. She worked hard and loved it. Two other people from her old team are on her new team, so that’s nice too. Her old coach is also at the new gym, though not coaching her team, so on the whole it looks like this will be a good arrangement. And then Christina got her invitation to join next year’s dance team… It’s going to be a busy, expensive year, but I feel confident that both girls are doing things they love, and that makes it worth it. Now if only I could find something like that for myself.

I took the day off from work to edit photos, and I did so for almost seven hours before my laptop battery died. I am not great with Photoshop. I’m sort of making it up as I go and hoping it doesn’t look too obvious that I tampered with the photos when people print them. Removing people from photos is tedious and difficult, especially when they are standing in front of bushes, fences, and palm trees. Why were they even there in the first place? How dare they go to the beach and invade my photo shoot? But, at least when I’m editing, I’m too focused on that to feel anxious and nauseated. That’s something.

April 16
More yard work today, followed by a walk to the playground with the girls and dogs. Now cooking dinner and annoyed because a) the grill started up, but by the time I got out with the chicken, it had gone out due to an empty propane tank, b) in going with plan B of baking the chicken, I discovered that Billy put the baking sheets back in the cupboard WITHOUT WASHING THEM, and c) I had to do two days’ worth of dishes just to make counter space for cooking. I am tired and hungry and cranky. Grr.
