Everything is ready for Christmas at last. I spent the afternoon making cannoli cake. It’ll be hard to top salted caramel apple pie cheesecake, but I’m going to try. We had our traditional dinner of cold cut sandwiches and that was good as usual. Right before we go to bed on Christmas Eve always feels like the quietest moment of the whole year. I find it almost as hard to sleep as the kids do.

It was back to work today and I got more done in one day than I have done in entire weeks at other times of the year. It felt good to be this productive. Christina baked a bunch of Christmas cookies all by herself, which is also awesome. Robin smiled at dinner and said words out loud, which always makes me happy. All in all, not a bad day.

I opted not to go out for this morning’s run due to the cold temperatures and high wind, and I’m glad. Instead I spent the day working on next year’s family calendar – an annual tradition since 2008! I also managed to go food shopping, do laundry, and make meatball subs for dinner. We’ll get the rest of our Christmas lights up at some point. Maybe.

We got our biggest Christmas tree ever today, literally the first one we saw. It touches the ceiling, but it’s nice because there was actually room for all our ornaments. Only one broke this year… seems every year we lose at least one. Now it feels like Christmas.

We’ve been enjoying all the games we got for Christmas this year. A particular favorite has been Uno No Mercy, which really is brutal, but enormously fun in its extremism. We have a bunch more games to try out, and luckily no classes or practices to get in the way for at least a week.

We put up Christmas lights today and I almost died. Apparently I stepped on the home of some very angry ants. I have approximately 35 bites that occurred in a matter of seconds. I had such a violent reaction that I almost passed out right there on the front lawn. I am in so much pain, far worse than when I broke my ankle and needed nine pins and a plate to repair it. But… the house is beautiful. Also the moon got in on the action. Thank you, moon.

I had four straight hours of meetings in which I was an active or leading participant, and by the middle of the last one, I had to pee so bad I really thought I was going to die right there on WebEx. I had also developed a steadily worsening headache. It was so hard to care about what I was teaching to the new hire class I was helping train. I ended the call exactly on time and although I wasn’t capable of running to the bathroom in my condition, I waddled over as best I could. I am still recovering. But I did win Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza twice. I always want to say chicken instead of cheese. I wonder what that means.

I’ve been watching the Holiday Light Fight show on TV and been impressed at some of the intricate displays people put in their yards for Christmas. Billy said he’s been driving past this one for a while and wanted to see it, so we went. It maybe wasn’t the same caliber as the ones on TV, but it was pretty damn impressive. The lights were synchronized to music and we could walk through it. I would love to do this in our yard, but do you know how much work (and money) goes into this stuff? It takes a lot just for us to put up our six strings of lights every year. But this was cool to see. I’ll just admire someone else’s work.

Got our Christmas lights up before this weekend’s storm. Also bought new mattresses and put up stockings and added tinsel to the tree. This week wasn’t everything I wanted it to be, but it could have been a lot worse.
