We had dinner with Rosina and Dion to celebrate my birthday and Dion’s. I turned 46 and he turned 56, which when you mash it together is 456. We look good for our age.

Christina had her birthday party at Sweet Pete’s today. Seven 11-year-old girls who did nothing for two hours except eat candy and ice cream cake are LOUD. But I think they all had fun. Christina definitely had fun. You really can’t go wrong with a party centered around candy.

Christina got the traditional balloons, chicken alfredo, cookie dough ice cream cake, some books, a puzzle game, a necklace, and hair cream for her birthday this year. Not a bad haul for someone who has lived for 11 years now. Happy birthday, my growing-up baby.

And just like that, we officially have a teenager. She was incredibly grouchy through the fetuccini alfredo I made for her from scratch, the walk around the block with the dogs, and blowing out the candles on the Oreo cake I made for her, also from scratch. She refused to smile for a photo and only perked up when I told her we’d wait to give her her present until she was feeling better. She bought a bunch of inappropriate clothes with the money we gave her and went to bed happy. I personally had a great day of baking and cooking. Happy birthday, little big one.

I can’t believe it’s only Tuesday, two days after getting back from New York. In two days, we’ve had the first day of school, physical therapy, Robin’s been sick with a fever, a cardiologist appointment, a dog with a skin infection, the cleaners have been here (not that you can tell anymore), and all the other minutia of life and work and all the rest. I haven’t had time for coffee or the gym in the morning and I sorely miss it. There simply isn’t enough time in my days. I am exhausted, all the time. I don’t need a vacation… I need life to slow down.

I didn’t want to take these balloons home from Rosina and Dion’s house, but I’m secretly glad she insisted. I have a soft spot for birthday balloons.

This little girl got another year bigger today. Ten years ago she shot out of my body like a bullet and she has been a blast ever since. No regrets!

We have all the number candles except 3 and 5, and our 4 has been used so much, it no longer has any wick left, so we had to improvise. We put a zero in there for good luck. Hopefully Billy had a good birthday.

The person who literally made me who I am. I love you, Robin! Happy birthday.
