Jackson very rudely woke me up at 7:30 this morning on one of my precious days to sleep in, which left me angry and slightly depressed. So I took the kids to the beach. It was far from beach weather, so we just went for a walk, but it felt so good to be near the ocean. Winds were gusting to 30mph and it was chilly, but that meant there was more beach for us. There was hardly anyone else there. I’m so glad I followed that whim.

There are no filters on this picture. The sky was that blue. It was 80 degrees today, so we decided to go to the beach. Christina dunked her head in the water, which is impressive because the water temperature is 61. We went as the sun was going down and the temperature dropped quickly, so we didn’t stay long, but it was beautiful. It always feels good to see sky.

Christina had dance pictures at Jax Beach today, so I woke up early to get her there. There was a surf competition going on at the same time, which was kind of cool. By the time we got home, the skies were black and rain was pouring down. It was otherwise a pretty dull day, with the clear exception of dinner with Lauren and Monica, which involved a LOT of laughing and a very heavy dose of sarcasm, which just fills my heart with happiness. There was also beer, and I like that too. I still feel like I could sleep for a month.

I was so disappointed when we got to the beach and it was sunny and thundering and looked like this a few miles down the beach. We stayed long enough to see a crab, take a couple pictures, and come back home. I spent the rest of the day finishing the earrings I made for Robin and FINALLY finished the advent calendar! Ok, ok, ALMOST finished. It still needs hanging wire, but that’s it. What a long process, but I’m so happy with it. Pics will come. Eventually.

August 10
The girls and I went to the beach this morning to christen Christina’s new boogie board. The waves were huge and she had a great time. It was so refreshing being in the water… I don’t know why we haven’t been going more often, and I can’t believe I have to wait a whole week to go again. Glad we made it today, at least.

August 6
The beach on the island was beautiful. The water was perfect. We sat in the water watching a storm roll in for hours and almost made it back to the mainland before the skies opened up on us. We ended up spending the afternoon in our room, but we did manage to have some s’mores by the fire pit before it started raining again. I am so glad Billy talked me into saying yes to this trip. I only wish he was here with us too. He’s been having kind of a shitty week… every football practice this week has been ruined by lightning and they have yet to get on the field. Pretty soon we’ll be back to commiserate. But until then, pool and turquoise water it will have to be.

Snagged this sweet shot of Christina swimming in the ocean with some dolphins playing behind her. The birds flew into the shot just to show off. We had a good time at the beach. Weather was great, water was refreshing. Need to do more of this.

It’s embarrassing how infrequently we go to the beach when it is as close to us as it is. But we made it today for a record-setting hour and a half. Too much longer than that and the sand would have been scalding to walk back to the car on. Next time we go, I will have to suck it up and go earlier before the sun tries to murder my feet. It was so refreshing in the ocean. I kinda can’t wait to go back.

Took a short, one-mile walk on the beach with the girls to ring in 2025. The weather was beautiful, if just a little chilly at 63 degrees. Made pizza dough from scratch and enjoyed garlic knots with a delicious and surprisingly filling strawberry, spinach, chicken, and walnut salad. Christina decided to give Trivial Pursuit another go, and she won twice! Watched some football (Texas and Ohio State won) and did some crossword puzzles. Egg salad and champagne for lunch. Pretty good start to the new year.

October 25
On my last day of fall vacation, I hiked Little Talbot Island. I thought I had bug spray in my trunk, but discovered when I got there that I didn’t. It was unfortunate, because there were approximately two billion mosquitos on the trail. I swatted them away for about two thirds of a mile and almost turned back, but then thought about the beach blanket in my backpack. I draped it over my shoulders and arms and it worked perfectly! Then I only had to swat around my face. Luckily, they mostly stayed away from my face as long as I kept moving. When I took out my lunch once I got to the beach, lo and behold, I found two cans of bug spray at the bottom of my backpack. It’s good to be prepared.

I needed to get out of the house today, rain or no rain. And it rained, but also there was the ocean. We brought Pinot with us, who didn’t love it, but also didn’t hate it. I sincerely miss being outside.

July 27
45… the day was pretty good. I loved spending the morning at the beach, alone, so peaceful. I left when all the families started arriving and went to lunch with my own family. Raised a glass to my mom and shared stories with the kids. Spent hours making a delicious cake with Robin. Christina told me what her gift was hours before she gave it to me (cannot keep a secret to save her life). I had a massive headache in the late afternoon until bedtime, but it did subside. I didn’t have the highest expectations, but the day turned out pretty well.

Robin and I enjoyed an hour at the beach after dropping off Christina at camp. The waves were huge (by our standards) and even I went in the water to let them splash over me. It was so refreshing and we had fun laughing at each other as we got bowled over. We went and got coffee and breakfast at Panera and finished the day with an awesome dinner at European Street Cafe. Robin ate the world’s biggest hot dog, which is her favorite. And she ended her meal with the world’s largest gummy bear. Go big or go home!

I led my last worship service for a while this morning and it went pretty well. I skipped the annual meeting (bad member) and took the kids to the beach instead. We saw a ton more dolphins and the water was Caribbean turquoise. Christina swam waaay out into the ocean to try to touch a dolphin and Robin had to bring her back. It was an absolutely beautiful day. I need more outdoor time like this.

It was a busy day! Robin and I went to the beach and saw some dolphins out in the ocean (Robin spotted them, thinking they were sharks), and then we picked up Christina from a birthday party at Adventure Landing, and then we went to Robin’s end of year cheer banquet. It was nice! Robin even got a special leadership award, which was so cool. So proud of her.
