My proposal went over well this morning, which was a great way to start my day. There is hope on the horizon. For some reason I am exhausted and have a headache tonight. Think I’ll go to bed early.

April 23
Spent a few minutes in the garden after work. One of the new roses has a bud on it. The impatiens was angry that I hadn’t watered it in a few days. This amaryllis is a late bloomer, but beautiful as can be. The weather was perfect and I was jealous of our neighbor, who was grilling hamburgers that smelled amazing. These are the nights to eat on the patio and we are spending them at dance and cheer and work and eating pizza out of a box. It could be worse, and a few minutes in the garden on a beautiful evening is better than nothing at all.

Robin had a marathon cheer practice today for 4+ hours, so Christina and I used the time to do some shopping. She bought herself some Judy Blume books and a Snoopy shirt at the mall, and I couldn’t resist buying myself a book, even though I’ve been reading Wicked for four months now and I’m still not done. Time just isn’t my friend. But, instead of reading Wicked today, I finished knitting a sweater that’s been sitting in a bag for more than a year. It was a challenging pattern, mostly because I had trouble understanding it. I was pleasantly surprised that I ended up with something that very clearly resembles a sweater that even fits me. I have to do the finishing (weaving in threads, blocking), but then it will finally be done. Just in time for summer. Today it was 91 degrees outside.

This amaryllis has been in our backyard for a couple years and has never bloomed. But here it is now and it is happy as a clam. Thank you, amaryllis.

April 8
The kids got glasses to watch the eclipse and I was counting on borrowing them so I could see it too, but they both lost them before the end of the day. The best I could do was look through my tinted sunroof with my sunglasses on for a tenth of a second, which was long enough to burn the shadow into my retina so I could see it with my eyes closed. That was awesome, but really the light here on earth and the ring around the sun were cool too. I adjusted the exposure on this one so you could see the sun’s ring, but the light on the grass and flowers really was this bizarre. It was the literal highlight of my day.
