I so wanted to stop and get a proper shot of this beautiful moonrise, but there was nowhere to pull over. I had to settle for this red-light photo instead. It was really beautiful. Dang the endless driving – although I’ll admit that without it, I’d have missed this view altogether. I guess sometimes you take what you can get. And I’m grateful for it.

Two of my favorite things: Outside by the fire and the Yankees are winning (even though it feels like they’re losing). The fire pit was a good buy.

We celebrated Robin’s birthday with Colleen & Co. today. It involved Uno Attack, pizza, and eye-rolling over the Jaguars. I also went to the gym and worked out with the girls, which makes it so much more fun. And we finally got the fire pit out again after having the trees taken care of, so I’m enjoying that tonight, too. Somehow, though, the weekends never quite seem enough.

And just like that, we officially have a teenager. She was incredibly grouchy through the fetuccini alfredo I made for her from scratch, the walk around the block with the dogs, and blowing out the candles on the Oreo cake I made for her, also from scratch. She refused to smile for a photo and only perked up when I told her we’d wait to give her her present until she was feeling better. She bought a bunch of inappropriate clothes with the money we gave her and went to bed happy. I personally had a great day of baking and cooking. Happy birthday, little big one.

Coming home from dance class, I pumped the Debbie Gibson from my open windows and completely and unabashedly owned it. Christina is a good sport.

Hurricane Milton left us with temperatures under 80 degrees for the first time in months. We’ve been enjoying after dinner walks with the dogs almost every night and I’m loving it. Billy and Christina were super impressive today and set up the Keurig, put up a bike tent, and fixed the fence in the corner so we don’t have to take Pinot out on a leash anymore. And now I’m enjoying a Brooklyn Brewery IPA that we found at European Street. Special treat.

Something about hurricane preparations really bugs me when we’re not even in the path of the storm and everyone hunkers down as though we are. Hoping people who ARE in the path of the storm are doing ok tonight.

The highlight of my day so far is cooking dinner, which honestly wasn’t that exciting. Ground beef and cumin mixed with brown rice and a Greek yogurt/cucumber mixture. It was good, but of course no one wanted the yogurt except me. I am so bored today.

It was a slow day filled with doing practically nothing. But Jackson came and posed for me with his Albert Einstein eyebrows. So precious.

October 5
It was a busy day. Gym, then coffee, then back to the gym with the girls for their certification to use the equipment alone, then fall festival at school (which was disappointing since almost all the vendors were selling the same thing and it was raining and none of the kids’ friends were there), then dinner at European Street with Rosina and Dion. Oh, and the Yankees won game one against the Royals!

Had a nice team event at work and got to see Christina’s play in the Festival of Courage. This will be our last one! The check-out procedure afterwards was a disaster and I felt so horrible for Ms. LaTanya, who was getting reamed out by multiple parents, as though she wasn’t sitting up front all by herself, surrounded by a mob or parents trying to pick up their children. She was literally in tears and parents were still yelling at her. How rude and inconsiderate do you have to be? I was angry and wanted so much to give her a hug. I hope that guy is happy with himself.

I wish I could find the dial that controls emotions because mine are always turned up way too high. A walk around the block with the girls and the dogs helped, but I think what I really need is an overnight trek in the mountains. Too bad that is just not in the cards right now.
