Robin had kind of a lousy day at cheer stunt camp, but we had an hour to kill before tumbling practice, so we had an early dinner. We had a great meal with lots of great conversation, which has been lacking in our relationship for a while. And then she had a near-death experience which involved an epic burp and a cup of soda from McDonald’s and we laughed until we cried.

July 15
I was having a pretty good day until an hour before bedtime when I realized that Robin’s time limit was off on her phone. I turned it off and she hasn’t spoken to me since. I hate her phone and I want to throw it into the ocean. I miss her.

I finally finished redecorating our bedroom today. It still looks quite bare, and I still want to replace some of the furniture, and the ceiling needs to be painted, but it looks a lot better. I’m most proud of the photo wall I created, which isn’t in this picture but is pretty cool. There are almost 200 photos on the wall. It’s so cool because every time I look at it, I see another good memory. Each time I see something different. Maybe we’ll get some money to finish it at some point. For now it’s much better than it was. I actually like being in there.

I finished knitting bunny. Now blocking, stuffing, and dressing. I also spent almost four hours trying to finish up the bedroom, but still not quite there. It’s looking good, though! I also got to have lunch with Myrna, whom I haven’t seen in ages. It was a pretty full day.

This is definitely a last thing before bed just to check the box photo. But I will say that my major accomplishment today was fixing an Excel spreadsheet using formulas and dropdowns and tables and URLs. For someone who only knew the “sum” function before last December, I’m impressed with myself. And I just made my life 0.01% easier. Worth it!

This is the reaction I got when I asked Robin to play Phase 10 with the rest of the family. Also today, she got her back handspring back after months of missing tumbling practice for various reasons. I love my teenager.

There’s been a lot of going through the motions this week, and for a while now. Hoping my mojo comes back soon. This is exhausting.

I have not been sleeping well for several nights now and I was very tired today. I still managed to knit a tail and a leg for my bunny and finish the book I’ve been reading, Lincoln in the Bardo. What an unusual book. Seeing Fort Sumter stirred something in me and I feel fascinated by the Civil War. Maybe because it feels like we are on the verge of it again. I have many loose-ended thoughts on it that don’t seem to lead anywhere just yet, but I can’t stop picking at it.

Christina has been having trouble sleeping, so came out to the living room to sleep. Pinot didn’t mind.

July 7
Finished up painting the bedroom and put together the bedside tables, but lost steam for hanging curtains and putting up the photo wall. Still an accomplishment!

July 5
I managed to drag myself to work today, and rewarded myself with family night at the pool and a nice dinner out at Olive Garden afterwards. I love family time, especially when no one is fighting, like tonight. I am determined to make the most of this summer.

July 4
Made it home from South Carolina and spent the day doing absolutely nothing. For some reason I am absolutely exhausted.

July 3
We went to the Bee City Zoo, where we were attacked by parakeets, spit on by llamas, and hand fed kangaroos, giraffes, and monkeys. Robin particularly loved petting the bunnies, especially the little black baby bunny that hopped around all over the place. So fun.

We went into Charleston today and spent way more money than we should have. The weather eased a little and it was much cooler than the last few days. Robin traded her phone for a very expensive, very cute pair of shoes that brought big smiles to her face and happiness to my heart. Christina fished Robin’s pen out of the Edisto River and touched a branch in the water even though it had a spider on it. An action-packed day.
