The girls spent most of practice inside today because it was 99 degrees outside and the gym isn’t air conditioned. I wasn’t invited.

Today was Christina’s end of year dance recital. Rosina and Dion came up to watch, which I appreciate so much. Now we have two whole days of rest before starting next season. The team sport life is really grueling.

Nothing seemed to go right today. All week long I’ve been looking forward to reverse tie dyeing this weekend. I put undiluted bleach on my black shirt for 20 minutes and it didn’t fade even a little bit. I guess it’s because it’s not cotton. Then we installed a new Ring doorbell, and it worked great for about an hour, went offline, and then several hours later started ringing on its own. We’ve tried tightening all the connections and it hasn’t helped. I feel inept. But I watched a Corona commercial on TV yesterday and it worked. I even remembered to buy limes. It really is refreshing. Doesn’t quite make up for all the day’s failures, but at least it’s something.

Tonight I started a new NAMI Family to Family class online. I forget sometimes just how desperate I was when I first took the class, now 15 years ago. I hear it in people’s voices, the exhaustion, the sadness, the frustration, the overwhelming emotion, the helplessness and hopelessness… And I think about Mom and our story, the one I’m trying to write, the one I lived, the differences between them, the hurt I still carry. It’s not easy. It never was.

I’m always excited when a new flower appears in the garden. This one’s blooming, as well as all the hydrangea and milkweed. It looks like a proper garden. Maybe I can do this after all. I better not get too cocky.

Billy and I went on a date on a rare night where no one had any evening activities planned. We enjoyed Italian delicacies and talked and it was nice. I especially loved that it was his suggestion. I was absolutely exhausted for some reason but enjoyed it anyway. It’s nice to feel loved.

The kids started camp today, and Robin is fully back to cheer, even with her boot. She was able to stunt with her team and was thrilled about it! I am thrilled for her.

We did MORE tie dye today, and it came out fabulous. I also made the first ornament for my advent calendar, the Yankees won, and we went to see IF a second time, this time with Billy and Robin. I’m so jazzed with the tie dyeing… I may do more tomorrow. I’m straight outta 1965, baby.

Today’s big activity was tie dyeing, which came about because I felt Robin needed to tie dye the sock that came with her walking boot. It was fun, but we went through a LOT of dye, and I had to go back to the store for more. My hands may be blue for a while.

Today was the last day of school and the kids were home by noon. It is so hard to work from home on the last day of school when your kids are home at noon. I was ready to log off at 2:27, and almost did, but I pushed through. The weather’s been a little cooler, so we had hamburgers and hot dogs out on the back patio. I love eating outside. Finished the day with s’mores in the living room and a late baseball game and falling asleep on the couch.

Robin got a walking boot today and smiled huge when she literally threw her crutches to the floor and walked away. I’m just happy because now she can empty the dishwasher and get her own glasses of water.

There were so many pictures I could have taken today. Like Robin’s sprained ankle that landed her on crutches for a few days, or making s’mores in the living room, or even the blooming hydrangea outside my office window. This is all I could manage amid all the chaos, and now five minutes after creating this work of art, the power is out. Perfect end to a great day.

It was a pretty boring day, but the kids had fun with my DSLR and even took some nice shots. I finished most of the machine sewing on my advent calendar. Next comes the ornaments and then the finishing. I may just get it done in time for this Christmas. I started it two Christmases ago, so this is a big deal.
