Christina had dance pictures at Jax Beach today, so I woke up early to get her there. There was a surf competition going on at the same time, which was kind of cool. By the time we got home, the skies were black and rain was pouring down. It was otherwise a pretty dull day, with the clear exception of dinner with Lauren and Monica, which involved a LOT of laughing and a very heavy dose of sarcasm, which just fills my heart with happiness. There was also beer, and I like that too. I still feel like I could sleep for a month.

It was a pretty low-key day. I’m finally more caught up at work and ready to start kicking ass. Made a nice dinner of chicken and olive artichoke tapenade, yum. Did a crossword puzzle and basically chilled out. Nice way to end a week.

Christina had a rough walk home from school. She somehow missed the walkers group and got left behind. Picked her up on the side of the road just before a storm and she was in tears. Poor thing. The other kid had photography club and seemed to like it. Need to get her into something… she is sliding into isolation and bad habits again. Billy and I are trying to be more present – and persistent – with her. Pretty sure she hates it. I guess that means we’re doing the right thing.

I ran 31 minutes today, which is the longest I’ve run since starting to run again. I didn’t want to. I even came all the way home before deciding to go back to the gym. I wanted to give up at least four times, including with two minutes left. But I did it. Could I do it again? Of course I could. Will I? That’s another question. My next long run is supposed to be four miles, which I think is hilarious because I haven’t even managed to run three miles. We’ll see. Any amount of running is a success. Today just showing up at all was a win. And that I did.

I made this bracelet tonight and it was beautiful, and about 15 seconds after I took this picture, all the beads fell onto the floor and now it is just string. Yay.

I’m becoming obsessed with the idea of beading. It’s all I want to do. I learned how to make daisy chains today. I have all these ideas for jewelry I will never wear, and I don’t care. I’ll just make it, and someone will wear it… or not. That’s fine, too.

I was so disappointed when we got to the beach and it was sunny and thundering and looked like this a few miles down the beach. We stayed long enough to see a crab, take a couple pictures, and come back home. I spent the rest of the day finishing the earrings I made for Robin and FINALLY finished the advent calendar! Ok, ok, ALMOST finished. It still needs hanging wire, but that’s it. What a long process, but I’m so happy with it. Pics will come. Eventually.

I had a productive day. Made the bed, cleaned the kitchen, went for a run, got coffee, picked up prescriptions, went to the library, went food shopping, made meatball subs for dinner, and taught myself bead threading. It’s tedious and time consuming, so right up my alley.

I cleaned up my inbox, paid some bills, signed up for some races, fixed the not functioning air conditioner (with Billy), and cooked a yummy dinner, and now it’s time for bed. Good night.

I had a pretty shitty run this morning. The goal was to run 5k. I ran that distance pretty easily last week with just one break, so I thought I would get through it no problem. It was SO HARD. I stopped three times to walk and I was dizzy for like 15 minutes afterwards. I don’t understand what happened. My last run was harder than this and it felt so much easier. My first reaction was utter disappointment and bewilderment. I failed and I didn’t know why. But in thinking about it more, I didn’t fail. I ran. I finished the 5k. I finished strong and I couldn’t have run any harder. Even shitty runs are still runs. So I’ll just acknowledge this one and move on. There will be other runs to conquer and many more opportunities to slay. I’m learning so much about myself through this process and I’m proud. Pride is motivation and motivation is progress. I will take it.

So this happened today… heard a loud crack and thump outside my office window and came outside to find this, just inches away from Christina’s bedroom. Very thankful it missed the house. Took Robin to tumbling in the middle of a violent storm and witnessed lightning striking the other side of the street as we were driving. That was fun. We also had dentist appointments today. Robin has another cavity and three more watch areas… It’s time to come up with a better plan for her oral hygiene. Pretty eventful day. I’m ready for bed.

We had a little more luck finding ice cream tonight than we did last night. I regret eating mine… it was just a little too much. Still, a nice reason to get out of the house.

Today was the girls’ first day back to school. Christina seemed to have a better day than Robin, or at least it seemed that way by the time we got to the dinner table. I offered to take everyone out for ice cream to celebrate, but both ice cream shops we went to were closed. Go figure. So I made chocolate chip cookies instead. Guess that goes down as a win.

The girls and I went to the beach this morning to christen Christina’s new boogie board. The waves were huge and she had a great time. It was so refreshing being in the water… I don’t know why we haven’t been going more often, and I can’t believe I have to wait a whole week to go again. Glad we made it today, at least.

We had dinner with Rosina and Dion to celebrate my birthday and Dion’s. I turned 46 and he turned 56, which when you mash it together is 456. We look good for our age.
