I had such a hard time waking up this morning to go for my run, but I’m glad I did. It is pretty much the only sanity I’ve had this week, and I’m so grateful for it. Today was a little better than the rest of the week, but it ended on a sour note when I got a series of condescending emails that really rubbed me the wrong way. But I have running and grapes and brownies and let’s face it, that person has bigger problems than I do. I’ll sit here being smug instead.

Nothing much happened today. I went out for a run this morning and it was still dark out. I haven’t really run in the dark before. Even though I wore a bright colored shirt, I’m not sure drivers could see me. It was a little unnerving. I may have to unearth a headlamp to run with. The run itself was good. I am doing intervals to try to build back some base mileage. It’s humbling, but it’s so good to be out there again. I’ve missed it so much. I had my car serviced this morning and that went about as smooth as can be. I was in and out in 45 minutes, and they washed my car too. Everything else was pretty much the usual. Work, dinner, dance. Rinse, wash, repeat.

We were all so looking forward to Universal and it was really a letdown. We were there more than 12 hours and only went on four rides. The lines were SO LONG. And there were so few of them. Almost the entire park is filled with shops. Like I really want to spend $100+ (per person) for the opportunity to go shopping. I don’t know if it’s always like this or if it was just especially crowded because of the holiday, but even though we thoroughly enjoyed the rides we went on, it wasn’t worth the 8-10 hours of standing around to ride them. We are all exhausted. Not a total waste. We did have fun. It’s just that 90% of our day was wasted standing in line. Could have been worse.

I spent six hours making an apple pie salted caramel cheesecake for dinner tomorrow. Each of the components tastes good on its own, so hopefully when it all comes together tomorrow it’ll be awesome. I had fun making it, but now I’m tired. I have to get up at 5:30 tomorrow morning for my 5k and I am not looking forward to it. Even birds don’t wake up at 5:30am. It’s for a good cause, though. I know I’ll come home pumped up and ready for some apple pie salted caramel cheesecake.

I ended up taking a sick day from work today because I couldn’t keep my eyes open or my brain focused enough to do anything this morning. I went to the couch to lie down and woke up at 12:30, ate lunch, and went back to sleep until 2:45. It’s unfair that I go through this almost every month. The pharmacy is always out of the medication I need, and it takes days to come in. And since it’s a controlled substance, I can only order it one day before I run out, and I can’t transfer it to another location. Every fucking month. Some months are worse than others… this was one of the worst. I finally woke up enough to go out for hibachi with Billy and Robin (Christina was at dance). And now it’s 9:30 and I am so ready for bed. Thank god the medication finally came in tonight, so I’ll have it tomorrow. This is miserable!

I had a great run this morning, which really set the tone for the whole day. I bought a bunch of yarn to make octopus keychains, but it’s too fat, so I decided instead to make granny squares. We’ll see how many of them I can get, and whether it’s enough to make anything of value. It’s nice to have something to do.

The wild manic streak I’ve been on for the past nine months seems to be coming to an end. I’ve finished all my projects and have been completely uninspired to start anything new. Most of the time I lie around, unable to think of anything worthwhile to do. I did manage to have lunch with a friend, which was nice. The girls and I went for a short walk after dinner and that was nice, too. I guess it’s better than nothing.

I have had such a great time with my family this week. Today we rode the St. Charles streetcar to Audubon Park. The kids – Robin – ran to the playground and played there for half an hour. I had honestly thought the playground days were over a long time ago, but they proved me wrong today. We walked around the Garden District, bought some candy and baked goods, and came back for an amazing meal at House of Blues. This town has SOUL. I love it.

I went for a 4.5-mile bike ride around the neighborhood today, but more impressively, I repaired my bike before going, without any help. The brake line had come loose and the handlebars were misaligned. God knows how the kids have been riding this thing. I realized the front wheel was also loose since it wobbled and rubbed the brake pad the whole way, making my pedaling difficult regardless of what gear I was in. I managed to tighten that up when I got back too. And the seat was too low, which was intentional so Christina could ride it, but it made for an uncomfortable ride. Still, the weather was gorgeous and it felt good to be outside moving around.

Today was a day for blowout Penn State football, Legos, an enormous cold cut sandwich that would bring tears to Heathcliff Huxtable’s eyes, and a walk to the neighborhood playground. Now it’s 8pm and I have to prepare for the wild party we’re throwing with our zero friends.

So much driving around today. Dropped kids off at camp, went to restaurant to pick up credit card I left behind yesterday, went to Panera for coffee, Whole Foods to return ballet shoes that didn’t fit Christina, got gas, then worked (on a company holiday), showered, picked up kids from camp, took Christina to dance, came home for an hour, took Robin to cheer, picked Christina up from dance, had dinner, picked Robin up from cheer. Billy went to the garage where they towed his car on Saturday. They said they’d towed 17 cars there on Saturday. Yikes. Booked the last hotels for our vacation and also reserved a sunset kayak tour at Acadia on the 4th of July. I’m going to force the kids to suffer through a strenuous hike up Cadillac Mountain. Better bring some good snacks. And earplugs.

I had a total meltdown yesterday. It came out of nowhere. Somehow I managed to steer myself to the park for half an hour. Not sure it made a big difference, but at least I tried. Maybe a small difference is ok.
