Tonight was NAMI class, and we had a pretty good class. Everyone showed up and participated, which always helps. I am grateful to have the opportunity to teach these classes, but giving up my only free night of the week is a hefty sacrifice. Still, I made a point to spend 30 minutes with my headphones on after everyone went to bed, doing nothing but listening to music. No crossword or jigsaw puzzles, no browsing on my phone, just me and my music. I forgot how wonderful that is, and all the incredible imagery I enjoy. It was inspiring. I want to try to do this at least three times a week, just to disconnect from everything else swirling around me. I barely know what’s going on anymore, and I don’t have the time to care. Couple more weeks and things should settle a bit.

I think we got a lot done today. Bought all the painting supplies and prepped both rooms for painting. Man, their walls are a nightmare. Robin’s walls are filthy and Christina’s walls are riddled with holes, one of which was almost large enough for me to fit my hand into. Also, Robin had a private tumbling lesson today and started working on back handsprings. I am so proud of her. I admire her effort, and I know it’s only a matter of time until she’s handspringing all over the city. And also I finished the last of the 3 in 1 Lego set I bought last year. I seem to have lost several pieces since last year, but I managed to find what I needed in Christina’s mammoth Lego stash. A couple things were the right shape but the wrong color, but you really can’t tell. All in all, a good start to spring break. Tomorrow we paint, Wednesday we pick up furniture, Thursday the decor arrives, and Friday we finish the little projects to make it special. I can’t wait to see what it all looks like finished. I’m excited.

A day off! I know I should have gone to the beach or done some sewing, but instead I sat around. Sue me. But Christina and I did make this Marge bird for her school project. She created the species and here it is in Lego form. Pretty spot on, if I say so myself.

Billy took Christina to her dance classes today and I got the afternoon off. It was so nice not having my work day interrupted and getting to have dinner without rushing. I could get used to this.

Probably today’s highlight was playing Exploding Kittens with Christina. Now that we understand the rules, it’s even more entertaining than we thought it was. Also, not today, but I finally got around to making the second project in our 3-in-1 pirate Lego set. It may have involved obsessively staying up until 2am to finish it.

Robin finished this pirate ship the other day and it is really cool! This is a 3 in 1 set, so we’ll enjoy it for a few more days and then break it down to build the next one. We’ll see how that goes without the pieces being organized for us!

It was a day of running around. Robin wanted to go to the mall with her friends, but then when we got there, she felt left out, which kind of ruined it for her, especially since she’d really been excited about it. I got home with about 15 minutes to have lunch before going out to teach my NAMI class, and I spilled my entire bottle of Diet Coke, which did nothing for my mood. But Robin and I had Legos at the end of the day, and man, that was good.

Christina has her father’s temper, alright. She accidentally kicked over this Lego Hogwarts work in progress the other day and instead of trying to piece it back together, she threw it and all the rest of it into the floor, breaking it to pieces. It would have been easy to call it a total loss, I guess, but this shit ain’t cheap, folks, so I swept all the pieces I could find into a Tupperware, brought it to triage, and rebuilt what her anger destroyed. And the best part is that this little girl who never wanted anything to do with this project ever again has spent the last hour and a half helping me track down missing pieces and not only got us caught up with where we were, but passed that into new work. I guess it’s good her mom has more patience than her dad.
