I bought the bulk of the supplies today that I need to do the patio project. After taking measurements, my brain nearly exploded. Let’s just say this is no longer a $500 project. And also that I am expecting a 2-ton delivery of supplies next week. That I will have to move from the driveway to the backyard. By myself. I am doing this, I guess. I know I’m crazy, but I’m excited. It is going to be seriously hard work that is going to go on a long time, and I know I’m probably underestimating the work. But that last can of Intuition I-10 is going to taste so good next to that fire pit when it’s all done. I’m all in now.

Robin did NOT leave her cooking class with a smile tonight. She didn’t want to taste her cake, she didn’t want to look at her cake, she didn’t want to touch her cake, she never wanted to make another cake ever again. Apparently she didn’t have enough of the color she wanted, and the piping didn’t work out, and to her it was so horrible that it ruined her whole week. But as it turns out, cake is irresistible. And even if it looked like shit, it tasted pretty good. See, now she knows how cake works.

I completely forgot about this calla lily when I planted my garden this spring. When I saw the leaves coming up a few weeks ago, I was amazed that I hadn’t unearthed it while planting a rose literally on top of it. And tonight I was even more amazed to see that it flowered. It’s only the second time ever that we got a flower from it. I almost missed it, too, because it’s practically buried in the rose that I planted there. What a nice surprise.

Had a pretty productive day. Got in my run (even if it doesn’t count because I forgot to set my watch to track it), did laundry, went food shopping, made a nice dinner and ate it on the patio. In between all that, I managed to do some fun things – beat the first round of the Harry Potter expansion game we got for Christmas, did some knitting. Now watching the Yankees lose to the Dodgers (again). Think I’ll finish the day with a beer.

Robin had her Cobalt sendoff for Summit tonight. Expectations for this team are so low that when they hit their routine, everyone was over the moon excited. Robin even came home saying it made her want to do cheer again. We left excited for this weekend, and I’m glad.

April 28
One of my new roses is blooming. The blossom doesn’t look as healthy as I was hoping it’d be, but maybe it just needs to establish itself a bit more first. The garden on the whole is doing pretty well. The plants are starting to fill in a little, and it looks more flush. Even the desert rose, which I thought for sure was a goner after last winter, is growing new leaves. I’m enjoying the garden this year.

Christina’s dance competition didn’t go as well today as yesterday. The team didn’t even place. It was fun watching her anyway. And, we have wisteria flowers for the first time since I planted it over ten years ago! So exciting.

April 9
I finally had a minute to catch my breath today. Which isn’t to say it was an easy day, just that I had some time in between the madness to catch up on photos, look at my garden, look up some things on the internet that have been bugging me, work on the jigsaw puzzle… It was nice, but now I’m tired. I stay up too late, trying to get some time to myself. It never feels like enough.

Christina and I got to have dinner together in front of the TV, watching Jungle Cruise. It was another day of endless driving to activities for people other than me, but these little moments, even when we don’t talk to each other, mean so much to me. It makes it worth it.

March 29
Every year I attempt to make this garden beautiful. I know I’ll never make it look as nice as my dad would, but I at least try to make it presentable without letting anything die. I know the pentas does ok, and heather has done well before, the roses seem to hold up… so I’m hoping we do ok. Impatiens are new this year, but I think they’ve done ok too in the past. Keeping my fingers crossed.

This weekend was incredibly productive. Billy and I hung my dad’s painting, I went food shopping, Billy cleaned out the garage, I did laundry, I updated my website for the first time in a month, Christina finally finished putting together her book for publishing, a gift we gave her for her TENTH birthday well over a year ago, I cooked dinner for the first time in more than a week (it was delicious), and we played Trivial Pursuit. I signed up for two more races, but they are on weekends with dance competitions, so I may not be able to make it. We’ll see! Back to the usual grind tomorrow. Not excited about it.

September 21
I had the most productive weekend morning that I can remember in a LONG time. Before noon, I got dressed, went to the gym for physical therapy, got coffee, did the dishes, and weeded both gardens. The garden was barely perceptible in the top photo. I wish it actually looked pretty after weeding, but the rose is overgrown, the wisteria doesn’t flower, the calla lily is drooping, and there is an awful lot of bare dirt. I do not have my parents’ green thumb. Maybe I will try to plant some mums for fall, but I think probably the garden doesn’t get enough sun for them to last long. I will not stop trying! At least these little white flowers, whatever they are, are hanging in!

Robin got a walking boot today and smiled huge when she literally threw her crutches to the floor and walked away. I’m just happy because now she can empty the dishwasher and get her own glasses of water.

Robin got a back handspring without a spot for the first time today! I don’t know how these things progress, but maybe she’ll have one in time for next year’s cheer tryouts? Or at least maybe she’ll be close. She’s got a few more weeks. She is so proud of herself, as well she should be!

Highlights in my day: Watching Robin work on her back handspring, weeding the gardens, worship team meeting, baked ziti, and of course bunny making. Not highlights: Work.
